The Cessna Citation CJ2 (525A / C25A) was first delivered in November 2000, and is an upgrade to the previous CJ1 model. The CJ2 is considered a light jet and is a 5 ft extension of the CJ1 fuselage. In 2006, Cessna upgraded the aircraft again by manufacturing another variant known as the CJ2+. This was developed with improved performance, avionics and more.
This aircraft was in production until around the year 2005/2006, and has had approximately 243 models built. As of 2014, 226 of those were independently owned. North America is said to have the largest percentage of wholly owned Citation CJ2 aircraft, followed by Europe.
Performance
This aircraft is equipped with two Williams / Rolls-Royce FJ44-2C turbofans with 2,400 lbs of thrust each. It is able to travel with up to 8 passengers including pilot and crew, at a range of 1,075 nautical miles, at a cruise speed of Mach 0.52. With 4 passengers, the CJ2 is capable of traveling up to 1,505 nautical miles under NBAA IFR.
The maximum range in this aircraft is approximately 1,605 nautical miles, and it’s maximum cruise speed is approximately Mach 0.61. The maximum take off weight (MTOW) you can expect to find is around 12,375 lbs. It’s maximum landing weight (MLW) is around 11,500 lbs and maximum cruise altitude (or service ceiling) is near 45,000 ft.
Another key feature of this aircraft is it’s natural laminar flow wing. This helps improve overall speed versus the CJ1 while reducing fuel consumption. It also helps improve the handling and short field performance. What you will also notice on the wing is a heated leading edge. For anti/de-icing, the CJ2 uses engine bleed air to heat the leading edges on the wing and engine inlets.
Interior
When it comes to the interior in the CJ2, the cabin measures approximately 4 ft 9″ in height, 4 ft 8″ in width and 13 ft 7″ in length. With the additional 5 ft upgrade in length from the CJ1. The CJ2 comes with an additional 2 windows installed in the cabin, for even more abundant light.
In terms of avionics, the Citation CJ2 uses the Collins Pro Line 21 integrated avionics system. It includes two large 8×10″ LCD displays which help improve situational awareness and overall safety. This system is used widely across a range of commercial, military and business aircraft. It also supports ADS-B out.
